Bula Mate Project
Australia Uniting With FijiWelcome to the Bula Mate Project
Bula Mate Project is a Bible centred ministry founded by Nathanial Leigh who is based in Brisbane, QLD, Australia. Nathanial is a young Christian man with a heart to help the lost, forgotten and those in need and has been involved with initiatives in Australia for the homeless.
Bula Mate aims to help churches and organisations in Fiji by providing additional resources and support.
We are a comparatively wealthy nation in Australia with a tradition of helping our mates. Our aim is to be a mate to those in Fiji sharing God’s Word and practical expressions of His love.
Nathanial was moved to help after meeting many locals during a family holiday in 2017 and seeing people in need.
Galatians 5:13-14
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
What We Do
Bula Mate Project aims to extend the hand of mateship to Fiji and reach more people for Christ, praying and sharing the Word of God. Jesus is our Lord and Saviour and we are His hands and feet to spread His love.
Our mission in one line is to serve the Fijians in love. Following the example of Jesus, we show our love by giving practical help to the community.
We aim to reach adults who grew up without knowing Jesus Christ or who are struggling in any way, either spiritually or with practical concerns. We care just as much for adults who already believe, supporting our Fijian brothers and sisters in the Lord.
We do not replace local churches and pastors but support and work with them. We are not chaplains, just believers sharing God’s love.
About Fiji
Comprised of 330 islands in the South Pacific, Fiji is a tropical nation with a population of almost 900,000 and growing. Despite a booming tourism industry, much of the country’s population suffers from poverty and malnourishment. Fortunately, the poverty rate in Fiji is beginning to decline.
The percentage of Fiji’s population living beneath its national poverty line hovers around 30 percent, amounting to a quarter million people, and has remained fairly stationary for the past 10 years.
